Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the role of the principal's supervision in improving teacher professionalism at Al-Muhajirin Junior High School (MTs) in Denpasar. The research focuses on the implemented supervision strategies, their impact on teacher competency development, and the supporting and inhibiting factors in their implementation. A qualitative case study approach was used. Data were obtained through participant observation, in-depth interviews with the principal, vice principal, teachers, and administrative staff, and documentation studies related to the supervision program and results. Data analysis was conducted through stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing with ongoing verification. The results indicate that the principal's supervision at MTs Al-Muhajirin in Denpasar significantly contributes to improving teachers' pedagogical, professional, social, and personal competencies. The strategies used include scheduled classroom supervision planning, individual coaching, teacher performance evaluation, and needs-based training and workshops. Supporting factors include the principal's commitment, a collaborative work culture, and facility support, while the main obstacle is limited supervision time due to administrative burdens and teaching schedules. Research shows that the effectiveness of supervision is significantly influenced by the participatory and communicative leadership style of the madrasah principal. This finding aligns with modern educational supervision theory, which emphasizes ongoing professional development, and reinforces the view that collaborative supervision can create a more conducive learning environment. This study recommends strengthening the capacity of madrasah principals as supervisors through supervision management training and the provision of more standardized evaluation instruments.
